Staying clean from heroin & starting a new life by relocating:
|
If you can’t stay clean where you’re at and/or would like to start a whole new life somewhere else then you may want to consider relocating, moving to somewhere new. Another city, another state, another country, anywhere away from where you are now.
The farther you move from your current location then the better off you’ll be. Although relocation may seem extreme for some, but sometimes, it’s necessary. And if you’ve already relocated before then you can always try again. I had to relocate 3 times within Central Florida before I got it right. Relocation worked for me and for many others as well, and it can work for you too. |
Why relocate?
To change people, places, things; to get away from dealers and friends who would draw us back into drugs; to get away from familiar dope spots and your current environment; to get clean and stay clean for good; to find new people, like minded people; to start a new life in a whole new environment; a fresh new start in a whole new place; another chance at life and an opportunity to create a new and better life for yourself.
Where to relocate to?
When coming off of heroin and opiate drugs, the best place for recovery is in a warm and sunny environment, such as Texas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, California and other places as well.
California offers beautiful warm weather, almost all year round, no snow. Tall palm trees everywhere and beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. Arizona is a beautiful place to live with beautiful scenery and mountains everywhere. The hot weather and dry air brings more sunny days than rainy days throughout the year.
New Mexico is a peaceful and quiet place to live, with beautiful landscapes, mountains and outdoor activities all year round.
Texas is another good place to live with beautiful lakes, beaches, and so much diversity in people and cultures. The weather is warm and the summers are long.

Florida is paradise. It's beautiful here all year round. We have beautiful beaches on the west coast and on the east with palm trees everywhere. And if you have kids then your kids would love it here.
We have Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, Daytona Beach, Daytona Speedway, Busch Gardens, tropical gardens, beautiful parks, beautiful homes, beautiful landscapes, good schools and so much more. The weather's sunny and warm here almost all year round which makes Florida a great place for recovery and a great place to live. |
Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and Florida are all beautiful places to live. And if you already live in one of these states then you can move across state, further south, or to another city or another state as well. If you live in another country then you can try moving towards a warmer part of the country or to another country.
You can also move and relocate to where you may already have family and friends who will welcome you and help you as well. Or, you can relocate to wherever you want to live. The main goal is to leave your current environment and start a whole new life somewhere new without any more drugs in the picture.

How to relocate?
Choose where you want to live and relocate to, make it a goal and then make a step-by-step plan on what it’s going to take to achieve that goal and then start working on your plan until you get to where you want to be - until you achieve your goal! Start looking for a place to live, a home, an apartment, etc, on Rent.com, ApartmentGuide.com or whatever website you would use to find a place to live. Start making calls and ask for prices, requirements, deposit amounts etc…
Join groups on Facebook pertaining to the area you want to move to. Ask questions there and ask permission to add people from those groups so that you can start to get to know people in the area who may be able to help you with information on jobs, housing, location, transportation, etc.
If you already have any type of skills, certificates, degrees, training, experience etc, then you can start looking for jobs on job sites such as Monster.com, Indeed.com, CareerBuilder, LinkedIn and others as well.

If you already have the money to move into an apartment then great, wonderful - do it! If you’re low on funds, then see if someone can rent you a room for a little while until you can save up enough money to go out on your own. And if you don't have the funds, then start working on it and start saving up until you do have the money to move.
Worst case scenario, if you really want to move yet have little to no funds at all then you can sell everything you own, buy a one-way bus ticket to where you want to go, check into a motel, find a job, 2 jobs, start saving and then move into an apartment as soon as you can. If you have absolutely nothing then you can start off in a program, or sober living home in the area you want to move to.

When to relocate?
Now! Start thinking about it and start planning it now. Choose where you want to go. Figure out how you’re going to do it, and then do it – give it your best shot! You never know what can happen until you begin to try. No need to be nervous. No need to be scared. Just do the best you can and hope for the best possible outcome.
If you’re still using then hurry up and quit, get clean, stay clean and then move – relocate. And as long as you don’t go out looking for drugs in your new location then you should be able to stay clean and have a much better life. And if you want to relocate but can’t do so for now then don’t worry and don’t be discouraged. Instead, start thinking about it. Start hoping for it, because sometimes, just like that, things can begin to change. Anything can happen. Anything can change. And as long as we’re trying to do the right thing in every area of our lives then eventually, doors can begin to open. Things can begin to change.
If you can’t stay clean where you’re at or you want to start a whole new life somewhere new then you may want to consider relocating. A fresh new start, a whole new life, in a whole new place. Good luck my friend. And may only good things and good people come your way.
Sincerely,
Jorge (George) Fernandez
